Artists for Literacy is an artistic showcase and cultural event being held at the Art Gallery of Alberta on July 8th, 2012  from 3:00 – 6:00pm  as part of an independent fundraising initiative aimed at providing educational resources and infrastructure funding for the Bassma Primary School . This is a private arts-based institution located in El Attaouia — a rural village in Morocco that is in desperate need of quality education for its young residents. This event is being hosted by Nakita Valerio, the Canadian director of the school who has happily volunteered her time to found the school this past September 2011.

The intention of the event is to spotlight the work of local Edmonton artists and artisans working in a variety of media and disciplines in the city, and to provide an opportunity for people to experience an afternoon of North African culture in order to raise awareness and funds for the further development of Bassma Primary School.

$5 @ the door

Goals:
